MENSTRUAL CUPS
Menstrual cup is a type of cup which needs to be worn inside the vagina during menstruation for collecting menstrual fluid. As compared to pads and tampons, menstrual cup collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing it.
Two types of menstrual cup are available in the market – one is the soft, flexible, disposable cup created from polyethylene and another is bell-shaped cup created from silicone or rubber.
Disposable menstrual cups can also be worn during sex but it is not a contraceptive device. A number of women go for a menstrual cup as it doesn’t absorb any kind of natural vaginal secretions like a tampon or sponge would.
Menstrual cups are available in both small and large sizes. The smaller sized menstrual cup is meant for women below the age of 25 who have not given birth vaginally whereas the large sizes menstrual cup is meant for women above the age of 25 or who have given birth vaginally.
